The Veni Earrings

In Varanasi's weaving lanes, a kinkhab weaver sets the warp before dawn. Two strands of zari thread, each carrying equal weight, are brought to the cross, what weavers call the lock. Until that crossing, cloth has no structure. After it, every subsequent thread knows where it belongs. Brocade patterns exist because of what happens at one point. Some designs carry this geometry.
